Matthew’s Fight for Sight grew out of one family’s attempt to cope with a potentially devastating diagnosis. Their young son, Matthew, only 11 months at the time, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare and fast growing cancer of the eyes that occurs in newborns, infants and children under the age of five. Fortunately, his family received support and guidance through this challenging time in their lives from the Institute for Families, an organization dedicated to providing care and support for families impacted by retinoblastoma.
With gratitude, the family resolved to give back to the Institute by creating Matthew's Fight for Sight, a program to honor the courage of their young son while helping to raise money and awareness for the valuable work of this organization. The Institute for Families is a non-profit organization, entirely funded by private donations. It provides its services at no cost to families and medical professionals.
